Our Services

Building girls from the inside out
Show More

Our evidence based program was established in 1998 by Angela and LaWanda Bailey, for the sole purpose of providing relevant resources, mentoring and life skills training for at risk girls in the Lakeland (Central Florida) community. The program offers personal development, job preparedness, academic tutoring and much more.

Urban Reflections, Inc. caters to the specific needs of it’s participants: one-on-one counseling, group discussions with peers, open-forums and monthly meetings with community leaders, educators, professionals from various fields/industries. Serving as a support system for our participants, they quickly learn that they are not alone in the issues they face, and that understanding, kindness and compassion can be the basis for building healthy, long-term relationships. We provide a detailed curriculum of relevant topics to include but not be limited to the following: self-acceptance, body image, bullying, effective communication, financial literacy and the importance of honesty.

Our participants boost their esteem and build confidence through our Fashioning Self Esteem Academy (FSEA), while also learning the art of design and the business of fashion.  The FSEA’s curriculum is based on the importance of self-esteem/confidence, and teaching critical life skills.

Building girls from the inside out

According to a study conducted by Los Angeles County Department of Health Services; that examined the relationships between role model characteristics, psychosocial functioning and health-risk behaviors.  The results showed that “56 percent of the adolescents identified with role models. Those who identified with role models, they knew personally, showed higher levels of self-esteem and stronger academics.” Livestrong.com
